Annual Community Lego Derby on Saturday, May 16th at 10am-2:30pm at Vineyard Longmont, 1712 Mountain View, Longmont

The Community Lego Derby is a thrilling event for Lego enthusiasts of ALL ages, set to take place from 10 AM to 2:30 PM on May 16th. Participants will have the opportunity to showcase their creativity and engineering skills by constructing and racing their own Lego cars on a specially designed track. The day promises to be filled with excitement as competitors strive to claim the top spot through innovative design and speed.

The event is not just about the race; it’s a chance for community members to come together, share their passion for Lego, and enjoy a day of fun and friendly competition. Registration for the derby includes lunch, ensuring that all participants can refuel and enjoy the day without needing to leave the excitement.

Whether you’re a seasoned builder or a newcomer to the world of Lego, the Community Lego Derby offers a perfect blend of creativity, challenge, and community spirit. Come join us for an unforgettable day of racing, creativity, and fun!

Location:
Vineyard Longmont – 1712 Mountain View

Registration:
Saturday,  May 16 at 10 am – 11 am

Entry Fee: $10.00 – (This includes entry for Race and Show Competitions and includes purchase of car base and axles.)

Car Build Time:
10 am – 12 noon – (Bring your favorite Lego pieces from home or use donated pieces available in the build area.)

Inspection:
10 am – 12 noon – Inspection of the cars is required before cars can race.  Cars that pass inspection will be kept by the inspectors until race time.

Lunch:
Noon – 1 pm – Choose from two entrees: Shredded Chicken or Pulled Pork sandwich, potato chips, cookie, and drink. Donations for this fundraiser meal will go to support the Royal Rangers ministry.

Race Time:
1 pm – 2:30 pm  – Car racing on 32 foot track with timer.  Awards ceremony following final race.

Ranger Lego Derby Guidelines

  1. Car Specifications: To be eligible for competition (either racing or workmanship), a car must fit on and roll down the track without interfering with any other car. Cars must meet the following specifications. Check the kit block before you start to make sure that it does not exceed any of the requirements:
    • Maximum Length: 7 1/2″ (includes all attachments)
    • Maximum Width: 3″
    • Maximum Weight: 8 oz. (227 grams)
    • Minimum Under-Car Clearance: 3/8″
    • Must use Lego Derby wheels and axles provided.

  2. Weights: The contestant may add weights to the car to bring the car to the maximum allowed weight. Weights must be an integral part of the car. They may be placed inside the Lego bricks, mounted as an ornament, or be otherwise permanently attached. Weights may not be taped or set on a car. If weights or any other part of a car comes off during a heat, the heat will be re-run. If the same car or weight parts leave the track again, the car is disqualified from racing.
  3. Competition Classes: The following racing and non-racing classes are defined for the Ranger Lego Derby event:
    1. Rainbows – 3-5 year olds
    2. Ranger Kids – K-2nd graders
    3. Discovery Rangers – 3rd-5th graders
    4. Open – Adults and family members
    5. Grand Champion – 1st place winner from A-C classes
    6. Workmanship/Design (may choose to be non-racing)

Inscripción:

Las Reglas de Ranger Lego Derby

Especificaciones del auto: Para ser elegible para la com- petencia (ya sea de carreras o de mano de obra/diseño), el auto debe caber en la pista y rodar por ella sin interferir con ningún otro auto. Los autos deben cumplir con las siguientes especificaciones. Revisa el bloque del kit antes de comenzar para asegurarte de que no exceda ninguno de los requisitos.

  • Longitud máxima: 7 1/2″ (incluye todos los accesorios)
  • Ancho máximo: 3″
  • Peso máximo: 8 oz. (227 gramos)
  • Despeje mínimo debajo del auto: 3/8 “
  • Debe usar las ruedas y los ejes de Lego Derby proporcionados.

Pesos: El concursante puede agregar pesos al auto para llevarlo al peso máximo permitido. Los pesos deben ser parte integral del auto. Pueden colocarse dentro de los ladrillos de Lego, montarse como adorno o fijarse permanentemente de otra manera. Los pesos no pueden pegarse con cinta ni colocarse sueltos sobre el auto. Si los pesos o cualquier otra parte del auto se desprenden durante la carrera, el auto se volverá a correr. Si el mismo auto o las mismas piezas de peso se salen de la pista nuevamente, el auto queda descalificado de las carreras.

Categorías de competencia: Las siguientes categorías de carreras y sin carreras se definen para el evento Ranger Lego Derby:

  1. Rainbows – niños de 3 a 5 años
  2. Ranger Kids – grados de kínder a 2.º
  3. Discovery Rangers – grados de 3.º a 5.º
  4. Open – adultos y familiares
  5. Gran Campeón – ganador del 1.er lugar – Categorías A–C
  6. Mano de obra/Diseño (puede optar por no competir en carreras)
